Oleksandr Polivoda finished in third place overall at the Tour of Cartier – East Mediterranean Cycling Project. It was the best result in a stage race in this new season for the Synergy Baku Cycling Project.

Oleksandr, 30, set the base for his good performance by finishing sixth in the race’s prologue, only five seconds down. He showed his further talents when the climbing started on stage one. Part of a chase group, he surged out of the group on the closing meters of the final climb to claim fourth on the stage. This moved him to third in GC.

He came well over the climbs in stage two and also held his own in the closing bunch sprint, where he finished tenth, in the same time as the winner. The Ukrainian went one up on that on Sunday’s closing stage, where he was ninth in the bunch sprint. He ended the race as third overall, only 16 seconds behind the overall winner.

“This is the first result for me this year, but more than that, I am happy with the help of the young guys, who work 100%. They have great potential and perspective,” Oleksandr said. “I think that soon we’ll see them on the podium. This is our main goal for future races and season. Thanks to the whole team for the help and energy!”

The team’s next race is the Tour of Fatih Sultan Mehmet in Turkey, March 29-30.
