(December 10, 2014)  Ioannis Tamouridis is the final signing for the Synergy Baku Cycling Project squad. The Greek rider is the 14th rider and the team is now full for the 2015 season.

Tamouridis, known as Gianni, has been riding professionally since 2009. He has spent most of his career with the Greek team SP Tableware, but in 2013 rode for Euskaltel – Euskadi. While there, he rode the Giro d’Italia, the first Greek rider to finish a Grand Tour. He also rode, as the first Greek, Milan-San Remo, Paris-Roubaix, Tirreno-Adriatico and the Tour of Flanders.

The 34-year-old has won the national time trial title seven times, most recently in 2013. He has been national road champion four times.

This season, Tamouridis finished second overall in the Tour of Taiwan, winning a stage.

“I am glad to join the Synergy Baku Cycling Project,” he said. “I look forward to being part of the sprint train for Max Averin, and am eager to share my experience with the young Azeri riders. And I will do my best to help them get a spot in the Rio Olympics.”

“I am also excited because of the excellent race schedule which the team has!”

“Gianni is an excellent all rounder with huge capacity in sprint-trains, a very experienced ex-Euskaltel ProTour rider, and time trial/track specialist in the points discipline,” said team manager David McQuaid. “He is coming to the team to support Max Averin and the Azeri riders, and to help them with the Rio Olympics qualification.”
